The Ase (2016) series explores Yoruba culture and it’s intersection with womanhood. Exploring the divine energy encapsulated within the black woman, her power, her energy, her vulnerability are all on display. It is believed in Yoruba culture that ase, the energy within all living things is especially powerful in the female form. In the images I work with Yoruba women to visualise ase embedded within.

The artwork is made up of 3 editions each for the 30x20 in and 40x26 in.
The artwork is made up of 5 editions for the 18x12 in.

La série Ase (2016) explore la culture yoruba et son intersection avec la féminité. Explorer l'énergie divine encapsulée dans la femme noire, son pouvoir, son énergie, sa vulnérabilité sont tous exposés. On croit dans la culture Yoruba que l'énergie de tous les êtres vivants est particulièrement puissante sous la forme féminine. Dans les images, je travaille avec des femmes yorubas pour visualiser une ase intégrée à l'intérieur.
