Overview

"In my recent work, I've been interested in the notion of myth making and memorializing, addressing subjects such as the Covid-19 quarantine and the ongoing struggle for social and racial justice with various formal/pictorial means. I use line to define a kind of figuration that alternately settles and disorients a sense of presence and place within the pictorial field. The paint smearing and streaking technique serves to give a sense of speed to the action of the various personages in my paintings. To the extent that my work is representational, I attempt to expose and transcend a boundary of sorts between the subject matter depicted and the materiality of the painted surface."
