Photographer and filmmaker, Alexis Chabala is committed to celebrating the unique characteristics of exceptional people. His works aims to reveal the distinctive qualities and implicit power of the individual, enabling them to shine and connect with the viewer in new and unexpected ways.
Born in Zambia to Congolese parents, raised in France, Morocco and Belgium, Chabala has been based in London for the past 20 years. His cross-cultural experiences have informed his empathic approach and desire to chronicle and represent a multiplicity of untold stories and contributions.
Creatively drawn to risk-takers, those who have paved the way and broken boundaries, his work reframes the Black experience, reflected in bodies of work such as The Influence Project, celebrating pioneering Black musicians and their impact on contemporary sound; Still I Rise, celebrating the power, beauty, resilience and achievements of Black women and Sensi, an exploration of some of the taboos and fantasies that are associated with Black male sexuality and masculinity in Western culture.
“I would like to think that my fearless, laid-back approach & non pretentious style has lead me to work with clients such as GQ, Wallpaper, Tatler, Latino Vogue, Muse Magazine, Viewpoint, Men's Health, Luxure Magazine, Burberry, Clam Magazine, Ubikwist, Volt Cafe, Abbey Road Studios, Sony Music amongst others”.
