Yéanzi was born 1988 in Katiola, Côte d’Ivoire, lives and works in Bingerville.
Graduated in painting and photography at the “ Lycée d'Enseignement Artistique “of Cocody and the National School of Arts in Abidjan, where he graduated in 2012.
Yéanzi, a street art enthusiast, worked as a commissioned portrait painter for ten years.
Since 2013, he has been pursuing personal work using melt plastic material. He thus modifies his relationship to the portrait and paint without painting, the people around him on a daily basis. In this process, he collects everyone's stories, uses their assumed name as a title, their remarkable identity, the mask they wear in society, to reveal their personality behind them.
Yéanzi has received several prizes and distinctions, including the first painting prize in the 'Ivory Coast-Israel' cultural competition, in 2008. He also received the diploma of honor from the Ivorian National Order of Merit in 2012. In 2013, he won the '' Guy Nairay Grand Prix '' and the ‘‘ Bene Hoane ’’ in 2013, he also participated in “les jeux de la Francophonie”at Nice, France.
He presented his work in 2015 at Galerie Cécile Fakhoury Abidjan during a solo exhibition entitled persona, at the exhibition « Abidjan on dit quoi? ». Also at Young talents in 2012 at the « Rotonde des Arts » and in 2014 at the « collective AAA (Abidjan Arts Actuels) » exhibition at the Donwahi Foundation in Abidjan and then at the Art prize the same year at the jack bell gallery in London.
Galerie Cécile Fakhoury presented his works at the biennial off of Dak’art in 2016 in the exhibition “a private collection”, at the platform of the art twenty one gallery in Lagos, Nigeria,1:54 Contemporary African ArtFair 2014,2015 and 2016 in London then at the 2016 Edition in New York and at Art Dubai in 2015.In 2017, he show up his work at the fifth edition of the Cape Town art fair in South Africa and made his entry the same year at the Mohammed 6 Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat, in the Africa in Capital exhibition.

Pavillon 54 in conversation with Saint-Etienne Yeanzi
September 15, 2021Pavillon 54 had the chance to have a chat with Saint-Etienne Yeanzi. born in 1988, he graduated in painting and photography at the “ Lycée d'Enseignement Artistique “of Cocody and the National School of Arts in Abidjan, in 2012. Yéanzi, a street art enthusiast, worked as a commissioned portrait painter for ten years. Since 2013, he has been pursuing personal work using melt plastic material. As many other African artists, he doesn’t create such pieces with the intention of becoming ‘Environmental’ artists, but rather, he uses the materials around him as a part of his existing culture and makes a more poignant statement about the effects of capitalism, as well as Western colonialism and consumerism on the African continent.Read more
